Don’t let the sun go down on me

I have taken ages without writing,I don’t remember when I last penned something worthy, something you write and you are super proud of the reflections and messages. I scribble understand me for the use of the word but that’s me being hard and honest with myself my writing differs in substance compared to what I used to write. Life gave me content(read illness) and it is why I reflect on my journey with stroke because I don’t know where it is going. Most readers have commended me for my vulnerability in storytelling but Vulnerability has its pitfalls.

Vulnerability
can be a double-edged sword,
and here I am sitting
at this balance point,
realizing that sharing
too quickly can be damaging,
yet not sharing when time has passed
means certain types of stories
get buried

The larger part of my storytelling borders on my journey with stroke and sometimes it gets overwhelming and you feel you are giving away too much, you realize that sharing a lot opens you up to the world and that can be damaging.

That’s the thing with writing: the awareness of raw emotion. The pursuit of life’s frictions, for it’s the friction that creates the heat that reminds us of our humanity

Archie Williams is on my mind,he is an American singer from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His story is both heartbreaking and inspiring—he was wrongfully convicted of a crime in 1983 and spent 37 years in prison before being exonerated in 2019 His case was championed by the Innocence Project, which helped prove his innocence through fingerprint(DNA ) evidence.

After his release, Williams gained national attention when he competed on America’s Got Talent in 2020. His emotional performance of Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me by Elton John moved audiences and judges alike, including Simon Cowell,  He made it to the finals but finished in the bottom five of the top ten. He said these poignant words, “I was in prison but never let the prison get to me”

One poignant line stands out, But losing everything is like the sun going down on me. That hits deep and raw, my life came crashing around the election that Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton so you can count back and we have Trump again in the White House. Some days are short but the years are long. On the part of rehabilitation, some things didn’t go right and I had to start all over about two years ago wasting the time, hope and resources.

Whenever someone tells me that I am resilient, I reply that, do I have a choice really or to keep pushing? Sometimes you can’t realize how strong you are until you pass through an episode and brave it. When Life batters you, you don’t sit down and cry, the world owes you nothing and you have to celebrate the people that get your back and that’s why I celebrate friends who have stood with me and continue to stand with me. I must have done something right to deserve the friends I have because I can’t say thank you, I only pray that the Lord blesses them in their endeavors and life continues being kind to them. The Stroke may have taken a large part of me but left the best of me, this is just but a footnote in my life. The sun is not going down on me because the Lord got my back.

This is a story of resilience, power and functions(writing while going through a phase). You have always been a model and in the class of great men that defies odds. I still recall a certain time I wanted speaking with you, until you now shared in writing that you can’t converse in spoken words. That day was a new challenge for me, and I have been so calm with whatever life gives me, while pushing hard for more.

Stories like this returns us back to factory reset, reminding us that in all we do, we should expect the unexpected, and at that moment of time, we should still be strong, and show the world what we are made of and never allowing “the sun go down on us.” – Yes, this is the hand that speaks!
