Flecti non Frangi

The guide continued,”The tree grows upwards following the direction of the sun, that is called phototropism” We were in awe of nature, the photo hungry friends were taking pictures for Instagram uploads, that time the feature of WhatsApp status hadn’t been introduced, the only thing you did was to put her/ him as the display picture to tell your contacts who is on your mind. The guide was a rotund little man. Little in the sense that he was short and since we are told to recognize diversity, little man I shall say. We had been on a trip to Mabira Forest. The guide had been showing us around and ended with a powerful statement, This Tree is bent, but not broken

The talisman reads Flecti non Frangi is latin meaning who can endure hardships but still stay true to themselves. Inotherwards being bent but not breaking. 2 Corinthians 4:8 “We are hedged in (pressed) on every side [troubled and oppressed in every way], but not cramped or crushed; we suffer embarrassments and are perplexed and unable to find a way out, but not driven to despair ” . The song, Trading my sorrows ably brings that out,’Pressed but not crushed,Struck down but not destroyed, Persecuted but not abandoned’

My accident was no mere accident, I mean even with bad accidents, one can recover quickly but not a Celebrovascular Accident, The scars are huge and so is the healing. Sometimes you wish the accident hadn’t spared you, but then again have you options apart from dancing in the rain and embracing the blizzard and if you die you die as is the common adage.

Recovery is a lifetime process and the scars do last. For example speech is never going to be perfect as it was and so is the walking. Let us not talk about things like work and other things like strolling in the compound. Basically, you are physically and emotionally deformed,it takes special courage to live on. What do you do when life is catastrophically stopped? What makes life worth living in the face of an illness? The answer is simple, dare to live.

I want to call this motivational writing. There are some things that are going to happen in your life that will break you and bend you but please don’t break.Yes I may be bent, but not broken.

This is my last post this year, I am going to be doing nothing just reading fiction books, the only fiction books in my collection are, The Godfather, Beautyful Problems, Half a yellow sun and a Haruki Murakami book. Otherwise I hope you are all pushing on small small life may bend you but do not be broken. Be kind, be humble and Spread Love.
