WABC Biz&Tech #1 Consumerism is a dog; The case against Reactionary days

Consumerism is a social economic order that encourages people to buy products at the ever increasing prices. Now consumerism has led to things like depression because if you cannot get that fancy phone in the advert,it means that you are likely to be down emotionally

Well I am a marxist.Marxism is a method of socioeconomic analysis that uses a materialist interpretation of historical development, better known as historical materialism, to understand class relations and social conflict as well as a dialectical perspective to view social transformation . Capitalism has always found a way to vulgarise consumerism. I for one don’t believe in reactionary days like Valentine’s day that are a construct of Capitalism and here was my write up on Valentine’s day. Basically we are thinkers and we view everything according to the class materialism. Mr Tibuhaburwa was one of us until we lost him to capitalism. He wondered why he should buy beds from Europe when some local carpenters could make beds so he was one of us till Capitalism took him and he embraced it. Here are my views on a reactionary day .

The world celebrates a reactionary day called Valentines’ Day, a day designed for the legitimization of consumerism and class materialism of the highest order. Boyfriends and husbands, wives and girlfriends are blackmailed by capitalism and its mouthpiece, the media, to spend lots of money “showing” each other how much they love each other, as if love is proven by some silly coffee mugs, ugly teddy bears, bad-smelling perfume and chocolates that only make sugar levels shoot up. The commoditisation of love by greedy capitalists, gifts should not be masked as “romance”.

Now because of Capitalism,it means that poor lovers cannot celebrate love because Valentine’s day means presents and expensive ones at that. Consumerism is the biggest dog in our economy and if we were marxists, such reactionary days wouldn’t make sense. We need a change of thinking in class materialism when it comes to business and technology.

    An educative piece… Welldone

As for the poor lovers 😂

  2. Consumerism is the pits. The reason why poverty remains expensive is people who know very well that they can’t afford certain luxuries, are made to think that they’re nothing without them…so instead you spend on wants instead of needs. At the end of the day you’re left with a pile of debt with nothing to show for it….
Your is really though provoking…my days here are nothing less of an amazing, and educative session. Keep it up!

  3. Nice piece

But the poor lovers though, who says you can’t buy a ball of orange to celebrate love on valentines day 😂😂
